First of all don’t feel overwhelmed – everything starts with one small step.
More than anything, we are ordinary people – like you – who took that first step. We are so glad you found us!
Who we are and what we believe
- We are your neighbors who care about our country and are concerned about the trajectory it is currently on.
- We believe strong but peaceful and non-violent action can affect positive change.
- We reject political violence and intimidation in all forms.
- We believe in collaboration, community, and the power of grassroots action.
- We believe in promoting the rights and well being of all people
- We believe we must protect our democracy.
- We believe in being partners with other groups that are aligned with a positive outcome for our society.
- We believe all of us are expected to de-escalate conflict and avoid confrontation with those who disagree with our values. To this end weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited at Indivisible events, regardless of permits or licenses. Leave them home or in your car.
How to get involved
We would be glad to have you participate in any activities you are interested in as much as you are comfortable with.
- Bring your passion for positive change.
- Bring a positive attitude that we can make a change.
- Bring your ideas on how we can do things better.
- Help us plan for events.
- Come to a South Kitsap Indivisible meeting. We encourage participation. Sometimes we will have a guest speaker. We discuss planning for upcoming events.
- We also have teams of people that work on specific areas that benefit the many communities in our area.
Things we (and you too) can do
- Honk and Wave events. We have a number of locations where we hold signs and give friendly waves at cars. We get many more positive honks and waves than any other reaction. It is a way to get our messages out. We have regular weekly events as well as special pop-up events when events call for it. Some people even do their sign holding and wave events where they feel comfortable!
- Participate in and become part of larger events. South Kitsap Indivisible is affiliated with the nation Indivisible movement and we partner with other groups such as 50501 and the No Kings protests.
- Letter writing and phone calls. We need to communicate to political and business leaders to let them know our opinions. This can include city council town halls and school board meetings.
- Even if you don’t join us, consider volunteering with another organization – there are many in Kitsap that need help.
Training
- Our goal is peaceful non-violent protest. We expect our protesters to follow peaceful guidelines. Some of us take training to be De-escalators so we can keep our protests peaceful.
- Crosswalk control for when we have large scale events such as the No Kings protest. We want to be sure we keep everyone safe so we need people that can assist people using crosswalks.
